About Mrs. Edmiston
This is my 41st year in education and my 21st year at Stove Prairie. I love to watch new ideas be developed and new teachers energize our schools. My husband Doug and I have 3 children and 3 grandsons; Asher (6), Amos (4) and Jude (4 months)
My Favorite Children’s Book or Author
This is a very hard question because I love children’s books. Some of my favorite authors are Ezra Jack Keats, Paul Goble, Tomie de Paola, Mo Willems, and Jan Brett. Some of my favorite books are All the Places to Love, Regards to the Man on the Moon, Olivia, The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush, Don't Let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus, and The Trouble with Trolls. One of my new favorite books is
What I love most about teaching:
I love the excitement I see in children’s eyes when they realize that they are learning to read and write. I enjoy having students for two years. There is such a sense of bonding and community that develops within each class.
My Hometown
Gainesville, Florida (Yes, I am a Gator fan!)
Something I like to do outside of school/in the summer:
My favorite thing to do outside of school is spend time with my grandsons, Asher and Amos. I enjoy traveling, whether it’s to Chicago, St. Augustine Beach, or to Australia. I also love to read, do Sudoku, and ride my bicycle.
Something else I want to share with you.
When I walked into the citizen’s briefing for the High Park Fire communities in the summer of 2012, I was overwhelmed by the sense of connectedness to students and families, past and present. At first it was sad and scary, but then I realized what a gift it was. A teacher always wonders what long range effect we have on our students, but we sometimes forget how much the community molds us into the person we are. Thank you Stove Prairie community!
